Thatbyinnyu is the largest temple in Bagan. Its double-storeyed style was to be an example for many other great temples to be built like Sulamani and an Gawdawpalin. Even though I passed the temple several times by horse cart and bicycle, I never entered the temple - that leaves something open to explore for a next time. As the pictures show, it is being restored, according to one of the souvenir sellers the spires are to be gilded. Because of its height, Thatbyinnyu serves as a real landmark. No matter how far away you are from the main road, Thatbyinnyu is almost always visible.
