Manuha was built during the reign of king Anawrahta in 1059. Manuha is the name of a Mon king who was held captive, and legend says Manuha was allowed to built this temple. This is highly questionable since Manuha does not have features that are unique nor has common Mon style elements. Inside the high structure is a cave-like space as if the temple is built around the large sitting Buddha. At the moment of visiting, September 14, a large party tent was setup on the premises to house the many guests in the evening who come to dance in order to expel the evil 'nat' - spirits.
